Our courses are taught by experienced, native French speakers who have a passion for education and undergo continuous training. We closely follow the French National Education program, ensuring your child receives an authentic, immersive French linguistic experience.

We offer FLAM (French as a Native / Heritage Language), FLS (French as a Secondary Language), and FLE (French as a Foreign Language). Across all pathways, there’s a shared commitment to mastering:

3-6 years old (FLAM class)

Prerequisite: Basic understanding of French.

Program: Children enhance their vocabulary and oral expression through group discussions. Activities such as reading picture books, art, and motor skills exercises aid language construction. Children learn expressive repetition of songs, poems, and rhymes from the Francophone heritage, introducing them to the world of sounds and writing.

6-8 years old (FLAM class)

Prerequisite: Understand and speak basic French. Can write their first name.

Program: Children expand their vocabulary and own the language via group interactions, oral activities, and memorizing Francophone songs and poems. They learn reading by breaking words into syllables and spotting sounds and also begin their journey into writing, grammar, and spelling.

8-11 years old (FLAM class)

Prerequisite: Basic communication skills in French; ability to read a short text and write simple French words.

Program: Students deepen their vocabulary and oral expression. They continue reading towards achieving fluency and understanding more intricate texts. They bolster their command over spelling, grammar, and conjugation and start crafting various texts throughout the academic year.

Les apprentis

7-11 years old (FLE class)

Prerequisite: No prior experience is required.

Program: This course is designed for students who do not speak it as their native language and are learning it in a non-French-speaking environment. The focus is on building foundational skills in speaking, listening, reading, and writing.

11-13 years old (FLAM class)

Prerequisite: Basic comprehension and speaking skills in French.

Program: Following a structure similar to ‘Les explorateurs,’ students in this age bracket delve deeper into the Francophone world and literary constructs.

Les secondaires

14-18 years old (FLAM class)

Prerequisite: Understand and clearly express an opinion in French. The student can write short paragraphs while adhering to the rules of the French language.

Program: The student is introduced to texts by renowned Francophone authors. They express complex ideas and develop their point of view both in writing and orally through presentations and posters on engaging topics. A deeper mastery of language in grammar, spelling, and conjugation allows them to support their ideas.

In Person after-school programs

San Diego and North County

Our signature in-person after-school programs in San Diego are designed for young learners who want to explore the French language and culture. “Les FLAMs” brings together students of different ages and skill levels in a unique way.

Students enrolling should have a basic understanding of French and be able to express themselves at a simple level. Our curriculum focuses on building vocabulary and improving key language skills: speaking, writing, and reading.

Beyond the language, we introduce students to the rich and diverse Francophone world. Each class offers an engaging and immersive learning experience to help students grow in confidence and fluency.

FLAM San Diego offers after-school French classes in various districts across San Diego County and North San Diego County. These programs are designed to introduce children to the French language and culture in a fun and immersive way.
